Doubling Coupons 101:
There have been a lot of comments about some stores (Meijer) not doubling coupons that say do not double.
I am going to try to explain this the best I can. Any coupon that begins with the number 5 in the bar code should automatically double even if it says do not double on the top of the coupon. The computer automatically doubles it. I have photos taken below to show you why I say this is so.
Here is photo’s of $.55 coupon for Wonder Bread one is a printable coupon and the other is from a resent insert. The printable coupon does not state you can not double the coupon while the coupon from the insert states do not double. So, what’s the difference? Nothing!
Now take a look at the bar code that you scan to take the coupon value off your bill. Both numbers are exactly the same.
So, why would one coupon double and the other not? The truth is, it is all up to your cashier and store manager. Some cashiers will stop the computer from doubling the coupon even if the computer will allow it. I just think some cashiers are just not as coupon friendly as others. Do they have to double a coupon that states do not double on it? No, they don’t and we really can’t do anything about it. I have never had any problems with my coupons not doubling but I know others have. If you have a coupon problem you can always ask for a manager or just have them take the item off your bill. It’s just not worth getting upset over.
Stores double coupons in order to be more competitive. I shop at certain stores just because they double the value of my coupon. If they didn’t double my coupons I would just take my whole list to Walmart or Target have them price match the store with the lowest price and give them my coupons and my business.
Here is some food for thought. If stores are being reimbursed for the amount of the coupon doubled don’t you think all stores would double coupons? Doubling the amount of the coupon is a store policy and has nothing to do with the manufacture.
This is stated on almost every coupon I have seen.
“Retailer:….we will reimburse you for the face value of coupon plus $.08 handing.”
Never once have I seen a coupon state we will reimburse you double amount of coupon up to $1 plus $.08 handling.
